A Blue Ball

I found this, a ball,
at the bottom of the stairs.
I asked whose it was
but nobody cared.

I put the ball in my pocket
for personal safe-keeping.
But my pocket became wet.
The lost ball was weeping.

I said, “Don't cry little ball.”
As I patted its lump in my side.
I know that you are feeling blue
but it is good to have a cry.

Then it gave a loud wail
and wept for almost years.
It cried and cried and cried
until it had no more tears.

Then ball quieted down
and let out a great sigh.
It's tears ran my leg
just inside my thigh.

So you see, dear teacher,
and students and those friendly,
These are lost ball tears
and not my own pee.
